Passers-by contacted the police

In Lviv, the Lychakiv District Court fined a woman 3,400 hryvnias for cruelly treating a dog without confiscating the animal.

In August 2022, passers-by noticed how a woman in the park was beating her German shepherd with a vine, according to the charity organization UAnimals on Facebook.

"The decision states that the animal had no physical injuries. During the hearing of the case, the woman stated that she and the dog were playing in this way, but admitted her guilt, asking not to confiscate the dog from her," the report states.

Animal rights activists noted that since the case was brought before the court, it is obvious that passers-by approached the police.

They called on all Ukrainians to contact the police in cases of animal cruelty, namely if the animal:

  • beat or mutilate;
  • carried by the paw, ears or other vulnerable parts of the body;
  • pulled on a rope or chain, causing pain or suffocation;
  • the animal has anorexia or traces of beatings or wounds on the body;
  • they are trying to kill her;
  • one animal preys on another.

The message emphasized that such facts should be recorded on video or photo and the police should be called. After the arrival of the law enforcement officers, it is necessary to request the recording of the offense and the removal of the animal.

"We would like to thank all concerned people who paid attention to this outrageous situation. And we are very happy that the laws on animal cruelty have finally started to work in Ukraine. We hope that they will continue to work, said animal rights activists. It depends on each of us in which country we will live. Let's be considerate and humane."

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that in the Chernivtsi region of an eighteen-year-old boy sentenced to 5 years in prison for cruel treatment of a peacock and his death. However, the perpetrator will not go to prison if he successfully completes the 2-year probationary period.
