A new technology could be key to a clean future energy industry

Inventors from the UNIST School of Energy and Chemical Engineering have invented a transparent solar module that can serve as an energy source for a mobile phone.

About this innovative invention tells the publication Interesting Engineering.

South Korean scientists were able to charge the smartphone using natural sunlight, using a transparent photocell measuring 16 cm ². It has a high efficiency – from 20% to 14.7% conversion ratio.

Researchers have developed a new method that allows you to directly charge the battery from the smartphone screen. It is called "seamless modularization technology" and eliminates gaps between devices without the use of metal wires.

With this method, you can directly supply energy from the glass of buildings, cars and mobile devices through transparent solar cells.

The new type of photocells and modules demonstrates high efficiency and is similar to glass in its transparency. This is made possible by the implementation of an "all-back-contact" (ABC) design, which places all the components of the solar cell on the back panel. The implemented innovations made it possible to obtain high efficiency and aesthetics. In particular, transparent c-Si solar cells with ABC achieved a peak efficiency of 15.8% while maintaining an average apparent transmittance of 20%.

"We plan to continue further research so that transparent solar cells can become a key technology in the clean energy industry of the future," says the leader of the research group, Prof. Kwanyong So.

The other day. EcoPolitic told about new development of Swedish scientists, which will allow the creation of a battery for a mobile phone as thick as a credit card.
