The public is asked to participate in order to prevent similar violations in the region

State environmental inspectors discovered unauthorized landfills on the territory of Onokiv OTG in Zakarpattia Oblast.

This was reported by the DEI press service on Facebook.

"In the course of measures to prevent and detect environmental violations, employees of the State Environmental Inspection in Zakarpattia Oblast discovered unauthorized landfills on the outskirts of Uzhgorod, as a result of which damage was caused to the surrounding natural environment, namely soil, water resources, and air pollution. This activity is a gross violation of environmental protection legislation," the message said.

As Mykhailo Bank, the head of the State Environmental Inspection in Zakarpattia Oblast, reported, 5 administrative protocols were drawn up for the above-mentioned violation.

In addition, during the three months of 2023, 44 administrative protocols were drawn up for littering the environment, 37 of which have already been fined. The State Inspectorate calls on the public to actively participate in preventing similar violations.

As EcoPolitic reported earlier, on July 9 European integration Law No. 2320-IX "On Waste Management" entered into force in Ukraine. The document is designed to change the very philosophy of the industry.

In addition to replacing the concept of "waste" with the concept of "raw material", it provides for: creation of a new permit system; decentralization of waste management; multi-level planning; infrastructure development; introduction of the European principles of the waste management hierarchy, extended producer responsibility (EPR) and the "polluter pays" principle.
