Turbines with a capacity of more than 7 MW have been installed on some offshore sites

In 2022, the top 10 wind turbine manufacturers continued to dominate the global wind energy market, among which Vestas (Denmark), Siemens (Germany) and General Electric (USA) became the leaders.

This was reported by GlobalData Energy's oil and gas specialist Adrian Mason on LinkedIn.

He said that the average capacity of land-based turbines has increased from 1.64 MW in 2010 to 3.68 MW in 2021. This was due to the increased efficiency and productivity of large turbines.

Mason emphasized that offshore installations typically have significantly larger turbine sizes than onshore installations. Their average capacity exceeds 2 MW, but some offshore sites have installed turbines with a capacity of more than 7 MW.

"The global average capacity of offshore wind turbines in 2021 was 5.88 MW," he added.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that in 2022, the world's wind power capacity will reach 743 GW. Experts have compiled the TOP-10 largest wind power plants.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, the International Energy Agency predicted a record growth of onshore wind power plants by 70% to 107 GW.
