The utility company has been systematically polluting the environment for a long time

In Zhytomyr, Motor Transport Enterprise 0628 caused environmental damage worth almost UAH 840 thousand.

This was reported by the State Ecological Inspectorate of the Polissya District on Facebook.

As it became known, the utility company, which serves the city's landfill and solid waste landfill, has been systematically polluting the environment for a long time. Untreated wastewater (leachate) from the landfill got into neighboring forest areas and an unnamed stream, which, in turn, polluted the Kroshenka River.

The State Inspector for Environmental Protection of the Polissky District, Denys Voinash, said in a commentary to Suspilno that samples were taken for inspection and the results of laboratory tests showed an excess of pollutants in the soil and water.

"Soil samples were also taken from the surrounding areas and along an unnamed stream, where leachate leaks are probably possible. Water samples were taken at the confluence of this stream into the Kroshenka River above and below the discharge site. After the measures were taken, a number of violations were discovered, about which a corresponding act was drawn up , and all the necessary documents have been sent to the enterprise," said Denys Voinash.

The inspection carried out a calculation of the damage caused by the pollution of land resources as a result of the violation of environmental legislation. The total amount of damages is about UAH 840,000.

"In case of refusal to voluntarily pay the damage caused to the state, the State Environmental Inspection of the Polissky District will be forced to turn to the prosecutor's office," the press service emphasizes.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, in the Lviv region, the head of a company that specializes in the removal and processing of garbage was accused of contaminating the lands of a defense plant.
