If proven guilty, the animals will be removed

In Transcarpathia, in a private zoo near Mukachevo, eco-inspectors discovered facts of cruel treatment of animals, because they were kept in very small enclosures.

Violators face administrative and criminal liability, which includes up to 8 years of imprisonment, the State Environmental Inspection in Zakarpattia Oblast reports on Facebook.

It is noted that eco-inspectors carried out measures to prevent crimes related to cruel treatment of wild animals. Violations were discovered on the territory of a private entertainment complex where the zoo operated.

The report emphasized that the Himalayan bear, puma and other wild animals were kept in inappropriate conditions. In particular, the area of the enclosures did not meet the established standards and was much smaller.

Eco-inspectors called an investigative and operative group of police officers, who must enter information into the EDPR and open criminal proceedings. If proven guilty, wild animals will be removed.

The message emphasized that the minimum area standards of enclosures for keeping wild animals per individual should be:

  • 100 m2 for dogs (wolves), medium cats (lynxes, leopards);
  • 200 m2 for big cats (lions, tigers, jaguars), bears.

The requirements for areas for keeping and breeding wild animals can be found at the link.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that in Lviv region, the court fined a resident of the village of Boyanets 20,400 hryvnias for dumping animal remains in illegal cattle cemetery on the edge of the forest.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, animal rights activists wrote in Lviv Oblast report to the police on the circus tent "Apollon" on cruelty to animals. Artists use a python and a crocodile during the show.
