Forestry should have voluntarily compensated for the damage, but did not do so

In Transcarpathia, the Specialized Environmental Prosecutor's Office through the court ordered the Mokryan Forestry to compensate UAH 1.6 million for the illegal felling of trees.

The Western Commercial Court of Appeal also overturned the decision of the court of first instance, which had previously refused to satisfy the claim for damages, reports Transcarpathian Regional Prosecutor's Office in Telegram.

It is noted that the forest farm, whose employees allowed the felling, should have voluntarily compensated for the damage, but did not do so. Therefore, the Tyachiv District Prosecutor's Office filed a lawsuit in the Commercial Court of the Transcarpathian Region.

The message emphasized that in April 2023, the court rejected the demands of the prosecutors due to flaws in the conclusion of the forensic engineering and environmental examination, according to which the amount of damages was established. Prosecutors challenged this in the appeals court.

"The decision of the appellate court enters into legal force from the moment of its announcement," the press service noted.

Earlier, EcoPoliti wrote, that in June in Transcarpathia, eco-inspectors discovered illegal felling of trees in the regional landscape park "Prytisyanske", which caused more than 45.3 million hryvnias worth of damage.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, in the center of Uzhgorod in the park near the building of the Zakarpattia Regional Military Administration and Bohdan Khmelnytskyi Square eight trees of various species were cut down, which caused 2.8 million hryvnias worth of damage.
