Almost 17 tons of unusable pesticides that posed a threat of environmental pollution were sent for disposal in Ternopil region.
The chemicals were stored in unsatisfactory conditions in the warehouses of the Husiatyn, Borsukiv, Skorykivka, Zolotnykivka, and Shumsk territorial communities, the Ternopil Regional Prosecutor's Office reports on Facebook.
It is noted that the pesticides were disposed of thanks to the cooperation of the prosecutor's office and the regional department of ecology and natural resources in the framework of pre-trial investigations of criminal proceedings. Prosecutors are investigating the improper storage of pesticides, which threatened to contaminate land with waste harmful to the environment (Article 239(1) of the Criminal Code).
The report said that pesticide residues were stored in warehouses in unsatisfactory conditions that did not meet sanitary and environmental standards.
"Almost 17 tons of dangerous chemicals were packed and taken away by a specialized enterprise for further disposal in the prescribed manner. Thus, one of the environmental problems of the region has been solved," the press service emphasized.
Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that in the Ternopil region, prosecutors have started a pre-trial investigation into the contamination of former farm lands by expired pesticides in the Kremenets district. Part of the hazardous waste was for a long time in the open area without any packaging.
As EcoPolitic previously reported, eco-inspectors discovered in the village of Kamiane in the Sumy Oblast the contamination of the territory of the current of the agricultural enterprise with unsuitable and prohibited chemical plant protection products, namely insecticides DDD and DDT.
