There is no hard surface on the site where pesticides were previously stored

Eco-inspectors found in the village of Kamiane in the Sumy Oblast, contamination of the territory of the agricultural enterprise with unsuitable and prohibited chemical means of plant protection.

Thus, the content of the insecticide DDD (rotan) exceeded the maximum permissible concentration by 3.3 times, and DDT (dust) by 2.5 times, reports the State Environmental Inspection in the Sumy region on Facebook.

It is noted that eco-inspectors discovered pollution during the inspection of the territory, where work was carried out during 2023 to collect, repackage and remove unsuitable and prohibited pesticides.

They found that three sites where pesticides were previously stored were missing a hard surface. There was a risk of land contamination, which poses a potential threat to environmental safety. Pollution was detected only at one site in Kamiany.

"The Inspectorate has already informed the Department of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of the Sumy Regional State Administration about this fact," the press service said.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wote, that in the Ternopil region, prosecutors have started a pre-trial investigation into the contamination of former farm lands by expired pesticides in the Kremenets district.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, the Department of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Odesa Regional State Administration announced a tender for the safe disposal of 175.5 tons of expired pesticides in 25 villages and towns of the Podilsky District.
