In Sumy region, shelling by russian troops on the outskirts of the village of Stara Huta in the Shostky district destroyed 203 pines and birches in the Desnyansko-Starogutsky National Park, causing environmental damage of UAH 6.12 million.
Also, the debris of buildings littered more than 67 m2 of protected land with construction waste and glass, which caused 27,000 hryvnias worth of damage, the State Inspectorate reports on Facebook.
The shelling from various caliber weapons took place on July 31, 2022.
These damaged territories have significant nature conservation and research value.
"According to this fact, criminal proceedings were opened by the Shostkinsky RUP of the GUNP and specialists of the State Environmental Inspection in the Sumy region were involved to determine the extent of the damage caused to the environment," the message says.
Eco-inspectors found that raw-growing trees were damaged to the point of cessation of growth, that is, they had broken trunks, more than 30% of the bark was eaten, more than half of the crown was missing, or the skeletal roots were eaten and broken. Such trees also include plants that are bent more than 30 degrees from the vertical axis.
The case materials were transferred to the Operational Headquarters of the State Inspectorate.
