In Poltava region, in the city of Pyryatyn, the first 30 tons of cardboard packaging waste collected by enterprises and residents of four communities were sent for processing.
This amount of raw materials was collected in 2 months, according to the association of manufacturers of packaged goods operating under the principle of extended responsibility Recopack on Facebook.
In an exclusive comment for EcoPolitics Recopack emphasized that this project is unique, because it unites four communities (Pyryatyn, Hrebinky, Chornukhy, Novoorzhitske). At present, similar projects are mainly implemented in cities.
"The knowledge gained in this project will be a good example for the implementation of such a system in other communities," the association emphasized.
The separate collection system was organized as follows:
- containers for separate collection were installed for the population: yellow – for paper and plastic, and green – for glass. Currently, 360 containers (240 yellow, 120 green) have been purchased, which have been installed at 120 container sites for separate collection;
- separate collection of waste at retail outlets, which is sorted at the site of KP "Ekoservice-2022";
- containers for separate collection of waste were installed at large community enterprises. Also, according to the signed contracts for the maintenance of the separate waste collection system, the enterprises themselves deliver waste to the production site of KP "Ekoservice-2022".
The association added that a number of communities of Poltava region are interested in this project.
"We are already holding meetings with heads of communities, where we tell them how this project was implemented. There is even a signed memorandum between 5 communities that are ready to unite for the creation of a separate waste collection system on their territory," Recopack emphasized.
It is noted that the project is being implemented with the support of German partners from GIZ with the assistance of the Global Project "Protection of the environment around the world".
We remind you that in Poltava Oblast, Kremenchutsk District, Globinsk community is planning to build a waste processing plant or a point for solid household waste processing.
