In the Poltava community, an eco-bus has started collecting hazardous waste from schools again in April, according to Suspilne.
As it became known, a year and a half ago, secondary education institutions were excluded from the eco-bus routes because most children studied remotely. As of April 15, hazardous waste collection in schools of the Poltava community has resumed.
"In a week, I have to go around 40 schools. This morning I already went around three, this is the fourth. The children hand in a lot: both power banks, and accumulators, and batteries," says ecobus driver Pavlo Simiyon.
It is emphasized that lamps and thermometers are not collected due to the safety of students.
"In general, this is dangerous waste and it is not advisable to bring it to class. The container is located on the first floor of the gymnasium. All students know that they enter the school and whoever brought it, they immediately throw it into the special container," – reports the deputy director of educational work of the Poltava gymnasium No. 18 Olena Ladygina.
According to Ladygina, a project called "Batteries, surrender" has been organized in schools for more than five years.
"There is a special container where children, parents and residents of the community can bring used batteries for further specialized disposal," says Ladigina.
As EcoPolitic previously reported, in Lviv mobile points continue to operate for receiving used batteries, lamps and mercury thermometers. Residents can drop off hazardous waste from April 5 to April 29.
