In Odesa region, land contamination was detected and recorded as a result of wastewater discharge from a cannery.

This was reported by the State Ecological Inspectorate of the Southwestern District on Facebook.

This enterprise processes fruit and vegetable products in the Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi district.

The area of the contaminated land plot is almost 8,000 square meters. Laboratory tests of soil samples showed a significant excess of permissible concentrations of pollutants.

The Inspectorate reported the incident to law enforcement agencies. Joint actions are currently underway to bring the perpetrators to criminal liability and recover the damage caused to the state as a result of the land contamination.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, environmental inspectors found that all seven water utilities in Kyiv Oblast discharge wastewater into the Ros River and its tributaries in excess of the maximum permissible discharges of pollutants.
