Russian aggression has caused more than 382.8 million hryvnias to the reserves of the region

Environmental inspectors have calculated more than UAH 49.2 billion in environmental damage to Kyiv region caused by Russian aggression since the start of the full-scale invasion.

The greatest damage to the air was caused by the burning of oil depots, commercial warehouses, and energy infrastructure facilities, amounting to UAH 46.8 billion, the State Environmental Inspectorate of the Capital District reports on Facebook.

It is noted that as a result of soil contamination and pollution due to the destruction, the damage to land resources reached UAH 2.5 billion. And the objects of the nature reserve fund suffered damage worth more than 382.8 million hryvnias.

"It is important not only to punish Russia for all crimes against the environment committed in Ukraine since 2014, but also to force the aggressor state to compensate for all the damage caused," the message emphasized.

The press service of the State Inspectorate added that the restoration of the region's environment will take tens of years.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that during 2022, eco-inspectors calculated more than 47.4 billion hryvnias of losses for the environment of Kyiv and the region.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, in Kyiv, Russian missile strikes on one of the CHP plants on October 10, 2022, caused a large-scale clogging of an open plot of land with waste. Damage to the environment amounted to almost 21 million hryvnias.
