The nitrate content exceeded the standards by more than five times

In the Khmelnytsky region, water from almost a third of the studied wells is contaminated with nitrates and dangerous for consumption.

Such conclusion specialists of the Khmelnytsky Regional Center for Disease Control and Prevention of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine arrived.

In total, in 2022, they have already tested 248 water samples from wells. Of these, 80 or 32.2% of the samples did not meet the requirements of DSanPiN 2.2.4-171-10 "Hygienic requirements for drinking water intended for human consumption."

According to the Khmelnytsky regional center of disease control and prevention, water quality was studied according to sanitary-chemical and microbiological indicators.

Specialists paid special attention to wells for individual use, from which children under three consume water. After all, in Ukraine, cases of poisoning of babies with mixtures prepared using low-quality drinking water from wells have already been recorded.

The research results showed that:

  • in Khmelnytskyi district, nitrates in some wells exceeded the standards by more than five times;
  • in the Yarmolynets territorial community the indicator was 2.9 times higher than the norm;
  • in Teofipolska tergromada - 2.3 times;
  • in Izyaslav Tergromada of Shepetivka district the content of nitrates in the inspected wells exceeded the norm by 2.5 times;
  • in Kamyanets-Podilskyi district in some settlements the concentration of nitrates in water exceeded the permissible values in some places by 5.3 times.

In view of such data, the Khmelnytsky regional center of disease control and prevention warned to consume water only from proven sources of centralized and decentralized water supply.

Before EcoPolitics reported that in the Vinnytsia region members of the expedition "In Search of Clean Water" checked the quality of water in wells and reservoirs. The results of the study showed an excess of nitrates.
