Illegal felling of trees caused losses of tens of thousands of hryvnias in Khmelnytskyi region

Forest strips play a major ecological role

In the city of Dunaivtsi in the Khmelnytsky region, illegal felling of five trees of different species in the protective forest strip was discovered, which caused damage of 36.4 thousand hryvnias.

Eco-inspectors became aware of the violation thanks to a report from a local resident, reports the State Environmental Inspection in Khmelnytskyi region on Facebook.

The materials on this fact were sent to the Dunayevets Department of the National Police, in accordance with Article 214 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

Field protection forest strips protect crops from droughts, dust storms, improve the water regime of the soil and prevent its erosion. They also increase crop yields and improve the microclimate in the fields.

In addition, such plantations play a major ecological role.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that in the Zaporizhzhia region, eco-inspectors found illegal felling of trees in the field protection forest strip, which caused losses in the amount of more than 588 thousand hryvnias.

As EcoPlitic previously reported, the SSU has exposed several in Lviv region officials from the forest farm who earned on the appropriation and sale of high grade wood in wartime conditions.
