In Bukovyna, a railroad worker was accused of organizing deforestation worth a million hryvnias

The violator faces up to 7 years in prison

In Chernivtsi region, police served a notice of suspicion of committing a criminal offense to the head of a railway station who had unauthorizedly destroyed trees worth more than UAH 1 million.

In May 2023, he cut down more than 230 trees in protective plantations along the railroad tracks, the press service of the National Police in Chernivtsi region reports.

It is noted that the police worked on the case together with specialists from the regional Specialized Environmental Prosecutor's Office and the Dniester District Prosecutor's Office.

The defendant was served a notice of suspicion of committing criminal offenses under Part 2 of Article 364 (Abuse of power or official position) and Part 4 of Article 246 (Illegal felling or illegal transportation, storage, sale of timber) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. He faces imprisonment for up to seven years with disqualification to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that the regional branch of "Lviv Railway" JSC "Ukrainian Railway" reimbursed 340.7 thousand hryvnias for the destruction of 233 trees in Zhovkiv district.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, a group of 10 Ukrzaliznytsia employees were exposed in Kharkiv Oblast, who illegally cut down trees and sold them, as well as used the company's equipment and fuel.
