Eco-activists called it the loss of one of the few environmental achievements of 2023

The Ministry of Environment Protection and Natural Resources canceled the list of 13 invasive trees that are prohibited from being planted for the creation and restoration of forests and field protection strips.

The cancellation order was not published on the department's official website, reports the "Ukrainian Nature Conservation Group" on Facebook.

It is noted that this list was approved in May 2023. However, it was canceled due to the position of the State Regulatory Service. The Ministry of Environment plans to re-approve the list of invasive trees.

Eco-activists emphasized. that the list was canceled despite numerous appeals from scientists, the eco-community and the public.

"On the part of the Ministry of Environment, there was no attempt to appeal the decision of the DRS, nor any attempt to somehow stop the planting of invasive trees this fall," they wrote.

The UPG assumed that the Ministry of Environment is waiting for the adoption of draft law No. 9516 "On effective management of forests based on the principles of forest management close to nature, adapted to climate change, preservation of biodiversity in forests", which they call beneficial to foresters. Or the end of the autumn forestry campaign.

"It's sad, but one of the few environmental protection achievements of the last year has been lost. We hope not forever," eco-activists emphasized.

Previously, EcoPolitic analyzed the danger posed by invasive species.
