Waste reform in Ukraine: the public will be shown the action plan of the authorities for the first time

Changes in hazardous waste management will also be discussed at the event

The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources will present the Waste Management Reform Roadmap to the public and local authorities for the first time.

The event will take place on Thursday, December 8, via an online conference, the Ministry of Natural Resources reports on Facebook.

The report noted that the Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine Ruslan Strelets, together with the team, will talk about the main stages of the reforms and the steps that will be implemented at each of them.

"The broadcast of the event will be available on the Facebook page of the Ministry of Environment," the press service explained.

The head of the Committee of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on Environmental Policy and Nature Management, Oleg Bondarenko, and the Head of the Aid Programs Department "Economic cooperation, energy, infrastructure and environment" of the EU Representation in Ukraine, Chloe Allio, will take part in the conference. The Ministry of Environment also invites representatives of central executive authorities and local governments, international organizations, leading business associations and the public to the discussion.

The press service noted that to participate in the event it is necessary to register for link by 5:00 p.m. on December 7, 2022, to receive a link to connect to the conference.

The announcement noted that changes in hazardous waste management and the information system in the industry will also be discussed during the event.

The press service emphasized that the Law of Ukraine "On Waste Management" will enter into force on July 9, 2023. The waste management reform provides an opportunity to initiate the changes that Ukraine needs in order to become a member of the European Union. The next stages involve the development and adoption of a number of draft laws and bylaws, the introduction of new models and approaches both at the level of the entire state and at the level of each individual community and enterprise.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that the Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Ruslan Strilets said that civilized waste management is a mandatory condition for Ukraine's entry into the EU.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky signed the Law on Waste Management on July 7, and on July 8 the legislative act was brought to the executors.
