On Saturday, April 18, a large-scale citywide cleanup will begin in Kyiv. In honor of Environment Day, the cleanup will take place starting at 10:00 a.m. at 40 locations.
According to the Kyiv City Department of Territorial Control, the cleanup is organized as part of a two-month spring campaign focused on beautification, greening, and improving the city’s sanitary conditions.
Locations – in all districts
Those wishing to join the cleanup can choose a location that is convenient for them. To help tidy up the city, you do not need your own supplies—garbage bags, gloves, and other equipment will be provided by coordinators from the city administration assigned to each location.
Kyiv’s municipal services will be responsible for hauling away the collected trash
“Initiatives like this are about the joint participation of the community, businesses, and the city authorities in organizing urban spaces. Through these actions, we foster a culture of responsible attitude towards the environment we live in,” said Department Director Mykhailo Budilov.
For participants’ safety, the list of locations includes information about the nearest shelters.
Overall, the two-month landscaping campaign in Kyiv runs until May 15. As the department noted, during this period, district administrations in all city districts are organizing cleanup events, collecting “autumn” waste – leaves and branches – and carrying out greening work.
EcoPolitic previously reported that in the EU, access to quality green areas depends on climate and people’s income. Research has revealed that poorer residents live in areas with less greenery.
