In Kyiv, it is possible to hand over worn car tires and swans from tires for safe disposal, because these are waste belonging to the 4th class of danger.
Thanks to pyrolysis, i.e. heating up to 450°C in a reactor in an oxygen-free atmosphere, about 12 thousand tires were disposed of in 2021, reports the Waste Management Center on Facebook.
Such objects of communal art pose a threat to the environment and people's health. After all, tires contain more than 120 chemicals, some of which are strong carcinogens. The negative impact intensifies on a hot day, when direct sunlight hits the tires .
Scientists believe that old tires are even more dangerous than exhaust gases.
They are made from a mixture of complex elements with an admixture of sulfur, resin and oil, and they take 150-200 years to decompose, polluting the environment with harmful emissions.
You can't burn tires, because dangerous substances enter the atmosphere during burning, including benzopyrene, furan, dioxins, PCBs. Thus, when a ton of tires is burned, about 270 kg of soot and up to 450 kg of toxic substances are released into the air.
However, only 30% of old tires in the world are disposed of. One of the highest indicators is in Japan – 87%, in Germany – 50%.
The article noted that more than 150,000 tons of used tires are produced annually in Ukraine, only up to 8% of them are disposed of. The rest end up in landfills or become material for "decorating" flower beds, yards, and playgrounds.
Tire recycling cost:
- for individuals: cars – UAH 40/piece, trucks – 50 UAH/piece;
- for legal entities: cars – UAH 48/piece, trucks – UAH 60/piece.
You can bring up to 15 tires for recycling to the center at the following address: str. Shutova, 16, from Monday to Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., phone: +38(098)043-03-03. You can also order the removal of tires at the address.
Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that in the Darnytskyi district of Kyiv, communal workers collected and took it away for further use thousands of used car tires.
As EcoPolitic previously reported, the Israeli company GreenMix plans to build in the Kyiv region plant for ecological processing of building materials waste.
