KP "Kostopilvodokanal" polluted the local river Zamchysko by discharging into it insufficiently purified wastewater from treatment facilities.

The fact of pollution was recorded by specialists of the State Environmental Inspection of Polissky District.

They took water samples from the watercourse above and below the discharge from the company's treatment facilities. The results of laboratory analyzes of these samples showed a significant deterioration in the quality of water in the Zamchysko River below the site of wastewater discharge.

The eco-inspectors noted an excess of the following pollution indicators compared to the samples taken above discharge:

  • the concentration of ammonium nitrogen increased by 38.75 times;
  • biochemical oxygen consumption (BSK5) – 2.57 times;
  • suspended matter content — 3.09 times;
  • nitrates — 3.61 times;
  • nitrites – 1.66 times;
  • phosphates — 24.63 times;
  • chemical oxygen consumption (COC) – 2.63 times.

Having received the following results, the State Inspectorate of Polissky District:

  1. She turned to the State Environmental Inspection of Ukraine to get approval for an unscheduled inspection of Kostopilvodokanal KP.
  2. She offered the Kostopil City Council to react to the fact of river pollution and take measures to stop it, as well as to consider this issue at a meeting of the Commission on Land Relations and Land Cadastre, Territorial Planning, Construction and Architecture, Protection of Monuments, Historical Environment and Landscaping, Nature Management and environmental protection.

The eco-inspectors warned that if the officials of the city council and the utility company do not take effective measures to eliminate the violation, the State Eco-Inspection of the Polissky District will initiate criminal proceedings against them for committing ecocide under martial law.
