In the capital, a new 270 m² square was built on the site of the dismantled kiosks.
This was reported by the press service of the Kyiv City State Administration.
The new park is located in the Podil district of the capital on Ivan Vyhovskyi Street. The dismantling of the structures began in mid-June and 18 kiosks have been demolished since then: 11 by utilities and 7 by kiosk owners.

"In the capital, illegal temporary structures are being dismantled in places where the dominance of retail outlets hinders evacuation routes. For example, passages to subway stations that serve as shelters. Also, in residential areas that are relatively remote from the center and need civilized open urban spaces with landscaped and well-maintained green areas," said Deputy Head of the Kyiv City State Administration Petro Panteleev.

Back on May 6, 2022, the city authorities announced that Kyiv was dismantling kiosks that stand next to the entrances to subway stations and prevent people from getting to a shelter during an air raid.
Instead, new green recreation areas with benches and greenery are being built where the illegal kiosks once stood. Those kiosks that were not removed by the owners after dismantling are donated to the armed forces. The military equip them as warehouses or mobile units.

EcoPolitic wrote earlier that greenery is essential in cities, as green areas create a place of peace for people. They allow you to forget about the fast pace of the city for a moment and relax. No wonder many people want to go to the countryside, which is in tune with: mental relaxation.
Green spaces help reduce noise, especially near roads and railways, improve air quality, and help the city absorb water during prolonged rains. It also has a positive effect on the emotional state of residents.
We also recommend reading about the fact that the area of parks, squares and other green recreational areas in the capital has decreased by more than 700 hectares over the past 10 years.
