Landfills cause significant damage to the environment and threaten human health

In the Kharkiv region, eco-inspectors conducted raids in more than 10 communities, where they discovered a number of spontaneous landfills.

Fines totaling 23,000 hryvnias were imposed on 14 local officials and 33 citizens, the State Ecological Inspectorate in the Kharkiv Region reports on Facebook.

It is noted that the raid was carried out as part of the all-Ukrainian beautification campaign "For a clean environment" in the following communities:

  • Novodolazhskaya;
  • Merefyanskaya;
  • Lozovskaya;
  • Bliznyukivska;
  • Lyubotinskaya;
  • Valkovskaya;
  • Krasnogradskaya;
  • Vysochanskaya;
  • Bezlyudovskaya;
  • Zmievskaya, etc.

Environmental inspectors check compliance with the requirements for waste management and carry out explanatory work with the population.

The report said that they sent letters to local heads demanding the immediate elimination of landfills. After all, they cause significant harm to the environment and threaten human health.

Environmental inspectors called for the immediate start of collection and removal of these wastes. After all, streamlining these zones is an urgent task.

"The Law of Ukraine "On Waste" clearly defines the powers of local governments, namely control over compliance with the requirements of the legislation in the field of waste management on their territory (Article 21), and the duties of citizens in this area (Article 15),” noted in the message.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that Kharkiv residents were urged to report to the municipal authorities about spontaneous landfills near the private sector, in areas free from construction and in green zones of the city.

As EcoPolitic reported earlier, in the Kharkiv region on the banks of the Uda River, a new landfill was discovered, where eco-activists have repeatedly held the "Clean Uda" action.
