The European Commission gave Ukraine the lowest score in the cluster of environmental protection, which was positioned as having achieved "significant progress"

Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Environmental Policy and Nature Management Oleg Bondarenko took 6th place in the top 12 ranking of the biggest reformers among people's deputies of Ukraine.

The ranking was compiled by the experts of the "Reform Index" based on the initiators of the draft laws indicated in the cards, reports Vox Ukraine.

The study showed that Bondarenko initiated 14 draft laws in 2022.

The authors tested the hypothesis regarding a certain advantage in the rating of people's deputies who are the heads of committees in the Verkhovna Rada. After all, it is often beneficial for the authors of draft laws to name such people's deputies among the initiators in order to increase the chances of the document's adoption.

It is noted that, in addition to Bondarenko, Andrii Klochko, the head of the Committee on the Organization of State Power, Local Self-Government, Regional Development and Urban Planning, also made it to the TOP-12.

In 2022, the Verkhovna Rada adopted 16 laws prepared by the EcoCommittee. Among the adopted documents, one of the most long-awaited was draft law No. 2207-1-d "On waste management", one of the initiators of which was Bondarenko. Before the adoption of the framework draft law, the sphere functioned according to the norms of 1998.

As you know, in 2023, the European Commission gave Ukraine the lowest score in the environmental protection cluster, namely 1 out of a possible 5. This rating showed Ukraine's ability to fulfill the conditions of EU membership.

The mark 1 came as a surprise, because the day before, the Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources, Ruslan Strelets, and the Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration, Olga Stefanishyna, referred to this area as having achieved "significant progress".

Natalya Andrusevich, head of the board of the Resource and Analytical Center "Society and Environment", explained that in order to acquire full membership in the EU, all 200 acts of the acquis communautaire legal system in the field of the environment must be implemented. Most of them have never been considered in Ukraine.
