Estonia will allocate its share of climate finance – €1 million – to implement environmental and climate projects in Ukraine.

This is reported by the Estonian broadcaster ERR with reference to the Minister of Climate of Estonia Joko Allender.

These funds are part of the $300 billion that developed countries agreed to allocate to developing countries at the UN Climate Change Conference COP29.

ERR also reports that the ministry's vice chancellor for environmental reform, Kristi Klaas, said on the Uudis+ radio program on Vikerraadio that the funds come from the emissions trading system.

“As a member state of the European Union, we have always received funds through the emissions trading system, which we should use for development cooperation,” she said.

Estonian officials said that at the COP29 climate conference, they met with representatives of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine, who clearly indicated the needs of our country now to make big steps in the climate sphere on the way to the European Union.

Recently, EcoPolitic wrote that the COP29 climate summit ended later than expected, as countries failed to agree on the final resolution on time. Read about what results were achieved at the Conference of the Parties in 2024 in our article.
