Debris of missile warheads and buildings littered 8,762 m2 of territory

Eco-inspectors calculated 5.35 billion hryvnias in damages from the rocket attack on Beketov Kharkiv National University of Urban Economy (KNUUE).

The fire lasted for about 2.5 hours and destroyed more than 40.0 m2 of space, the State Environmental Inspection in the Kharkiv region reports on Facebook.

The missile strike took place on February 5, 2023. A direct hit destroyed the three upper floors of the main building, and also knocked out doors and windows in the architectural and administrative buildings.

It is noted that the fire destroyed several floors, laboratory equipment and damaged the Megapolis research center.

In the message, it was emphasized that fragments of combat parts of rockets, glass, plastic, metal, wood, brick littered 8762 m2 of territory.

"The materials based on these facts have been handed over to the Specialized Environmental Prosecutor's Office of the Kharkiv Region," the eco-inspectors said.

It is noted that KNUUE named after O.M. Beketova University is one of the oldest universities in Kharkiv, which was founded in 1922.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that in Kharkiv, eco-inspectors calculated 3.18 billion hryvnias in damages to the environment from the shelling of the park named after Gorky, which happened on August 9, 2022.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, in September 2022, the Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources, Ruslan Strilets, said that the damage caused by Russian aggression to the environment of Kharkiv Oblast reached 83 billion hryvnias.
