Compensation in the amount of UAH 200,000 will be collected from another community in Ternopil region

The Economic Court of the Ternopil Region decided to recover 4.7 million UAH from the Podvolochisk Village Council, which for 2 years ignored the instructions of the State Environmental Inspectorate to eliminate spontaneous landfills of household waste in the community.

This was reported in the Ternopil regional prosecutor's office.

Prosecutors proved that local authorities did not fulfill their duties in the field of environmental protection in terms of safe waste management.

This led to pollution and clogging of land and, as a result, caused damage to the environment.

At the suit of the Buchach district prosecutor's office, the same court decided to recover from the Zalishchytsky city council more than 200 thousand UAH. This is the amount of damage caused by pollution of the lands of the territorial community, where spontaneous landfills of waste are found.

Prosecutors of the Specialized Environmental Prosecutor's Office of the Ternopil Regional Prosecutor's Office participated in the trial. The press service of the department noted that the court decisions have not yet entered into legal force.

The prosecutor's office reminded that, in accordance with legislative norms, the resolution of the issue regarding the organization of household waste management, ensuring the liquidation of spontaneous landfills within the boundaries of settlements and the implementation of control over compliance with land and nature protection legislation belongs to the powers of local self-government bodies.

Also, experts of the eco-prosecutor's office noted that the placement of household waste in undeveloped areas poses a significant threat to the environment due to the ingress of hazardous substances from the waste into the soil and aquifers, worsening some surface and underground waters.

Earlier, EcoPolitic reported that in Poltava Oblast the enterprise arranged an unauthorized dump of animal remains near the village.
