Thanks to a comprehensive thermal modernisation programme, energy consumption at the ‘Edelweiss 24’ homeowners’ association building in Kolomyia has been reduced by almost 60 per cent. Residents are saving on utility bills, and annual emissions have fallen by over 320 tonnes of CO₂ as a result of the project.
This was reported by the State Energy Efficiency Fund. The work was carried out as part of its ‘Energodim’ programme.
Comprehensive renovation
The “Edelweiss 24” housing association is a prefabricated high-rise block that is almost 40 years old. Due to its poor technical condition, damp was constantly seeping into the flats, and the flats were freezing. This caused discomfort for residents, as well as unnecessary energy loss.
The residents therefore took part in the “Energodim” project. This involved work such as thermal insulation and refurbishment of the external walls, replacement of windows and balcony units, and modernisation of the ventilation system with the installation of heat recovery units.
“On average, in winter, gas consumption per apartment decreased by about 100 cubic meters compared to the pre-modernization period. However, the temperature in the apartments always remains comfortable-even during prolonged power outages and frosts down to -20°C, it was about +20°C inside,” stated Olena Svyshchuk, chairperson of the Edelveis 24 condominium.

Project in numbers
Overall, the project cost 16.7 million UAH, of which the Energy Efficiency Fund grant covered 11.7 million UAH. Thus, the residents’ own contribution amounted to 5 million UAH, or about 164,700 UAH per apartment with an area of 60 m2.
As a result, energy consumption dropped by around 60%, and the condominium will save about 1.6 million UAH per year on heating. For each apartment, that is about 15,500 UAH.
Due to the decrease in energy consumption, and thus production costs, the building’s modernization reduced annual emissions by 321.9 tons.
