The air in Ivano-Frankivsk is currently the dustiest

On the morning of November 5, most Ukrainian cities show good air quality. All cities with a moderate level of pollution are located in the western regions.

This is evidenced by data from the international monitoring platform IQAir.

The air in Kyiv is currently of good quality, with an index of 29 US AQI. The main pollutant remains fine particulate matter PM2.5, with a concentration of 5.4 µg/m3. According to the WHO, the average annual standard for this indicator is 5 µg/m3.

Moderate pollution is also recorded in the capital and its vicinity: 24 µg/m3 in Sofiivska Borshchahivka, 11.5 µg/m3 on Zdanovskoi Street and 10.9 µg/m3 in Kotsiubynske.

Moderate pollution among regional centers is observed in western Ukraine. Dust concentrations are as follows:

  • Ivano-Frankivsk – 14.4 µg/m3;
  • Lutsk – 14.2 µg/m3;
  • Rivne – 13.3 µg/m3;
  • Ternopil – 11.3 µg/m3;
  • Lviv – 9.9 µg/m3.

In most cities, however, the air is currently not highly polluted and is therefore safe for people:

  • Vinnytsia – 8.8 µg/m3;
  • Dnipro – 7 µg/m3;
  • Chernihiv – 6 µg/m3;
  • Chernivtsi – 5.2 µg/m3;
  • Uzhhorod – 4.4 µg/m3;
  • Kherson – 3.9 µg/m3;
  • Khmelnytskyi – 3.5 µg/m3;
  • Odesa – 3.3 µg/m3;
  • Zaporizhzhia – 3.3 µg/m3;
  • Zhytomyr – 3 µg/m3;
  • Mykolaiv – 3.1 µg/m3;
  • Cherkasy – 3.1 µg/m3;
  • Poltava – 2.6 µg/m3;
  • Kharkiv – 2.4 µg/m3.

A high content of harmful compounds in the air poses a threat to public health. In particular, it can lead to exacerbations or even the onset of respiratory and cardiovascular diseases. Read more about the impact of the environment on the human body in this article.
