Visitors can also chat to volunteers and learn how to provide first aid to animals

This weekend, on 18 and 19 July, the 22nd AdoptMe Days festival will take place at the VDNG in Kyiv. The venue will provide an opportunity to meet cats and dogs from various shelters across the region, all waiting to become part of someone’s family. The event offers an opportunity not only to give the animals a little of the attention they so richly deserve, but also to chat with volunteers and experts to ensure you are properly prepared for adoption.

The event will take place in the “KIT” pavilion at VDNG, open from 13:00 to 19:00. Entry is completely free. The event is organised by Gostomel Shelter and Pethouse.

“At AdoptMe Days, shelters, volunteers and ordinary people are all working towards a common goal. Here, you can not only take a pet home, but also ask volunteers about care, find out how to prepare your home, and chat with those who have already adopted a cat or dog,” say the AdoptMe Days team.

The festival will feature animals with different personalities and backgrounds. The cats and dogs have all been neutered and treated for parasites.

The organisers emphasise that the best adoption is a considered one, not an impulsive one. So they do not pressure people into taking an animal home straight away. You can get to know the animal, discuss the details with the volunteers, and take your time to think it over. The main thing is not just to take them home, but to take them home for good.

Useful activities for future pet parents

Festival guests will have the opportunity not only to meet the animals. The team has prepared various important events and master classes. Among them:

  • first aid for animals in emergencies;
  • stopping critical bleeding in animals;
  • assisting an animal that is not breathing;
  • animal first-aid kit.

Also, if AdoptMe Days visitors decide to adopt an animal, they can immediately register it in the Kyiv City Pet Register. The festival itself will cover the registration fee. You should bring your passport and taxpayer identification card for this procedure.

EcoPolitic previously reported that Ukraine is creating a unified state register of domestic cats, dogs, and ferrets. Registration will be free and voluntary for pet owners. In the future, the new system is planned to be developed into a comprehensive Unified State Register of Domestic Animals.
