The company's innovations are aimed at eco-modernization to increase the energy efficiency of production

Metinvest Group ranked second among Ukrainian companies in terms of sustainable development. The corresponding rating of business programs was compiled by the business publication The Page.

The group reported that the rating assessed the best ESG practices that companies implemented during 2024-2025.

In total, the jury evaluated questionnaires from 15 participating companies. The criteria included the existence of a strategy and transition plan, the availability of audits and non-financial reporting, innovation, and transparency of communications. The leaders also included the auditing company Deloitte Ukraine and the IT company SoftServe.

"Metinvest demonstrates a mature sustainable development system based on combined annual reporting in accordance with GRI, SASB, and TCFD standards. Despite the difficult conditions of war, the company conducts regular audits of environmental management and energy efficiency, and its corporate policy package covers almost all aspects of ESG risks," the company quotes The Page.

Environmental sustainability as an innovation component

A number of innovative solutions implemented within the Metinvest Group focused on energy efficiency and eco-modernization.

Among such projects, the company mentions the transition to biofuel using sunflower husk, as well as systematic work to reduce energy consumption during pellet production.

In the future, Metinvest plans to launch several solar power plants. The total capacity of these new solar stations will be 37 MW.

Social initiatives were also an important factor influencing the ranking. These efforts are focused on supporting defense capabilities and the reconstruction of Ukraine.

EcoPolitic previously reported that Metinvest is investing in a new project to produce concentrate with increased iron content for the manufacture of “green” steel. Construction of the new facility is underway at Northern GOK.

Moreover, Metinvest’s enterprises are among the largest payers of resource taxes in Ukraine, including the environmental tax. According to the company, during 2025 the total amount of environmental payments made by its assets amounted to UAH 690 million.
