This winter continues to show abnormally high temperatures. As of the second half of December, Ukrainian resorts in the Carpathian Mountains have no snow cover: on the one hand, there is no natural precipitation, and on the other, there is no sustained frost to stabilize artificial snow.
This was reported by the media outlet Glavkom, which investigated the resort situation in the Carpathians.
Here is a brief overview of the situation in the most popular resort areas:
- Bukovel is snowless. Usually, the winter resort season starts here in early December, and sometimes even at the end of November. However, not in 2025. The administration stated that they are trying to use artificial snowmaking, but the absence of frost does not allow it to stay in place.
- The situation is similar at “Bukovytsia” in the Lviv region. The slopes still lack snow, and above-zero temperatures prevent the formation of artificial cover.
- Trostyan, located in the Slavsko community, has had a light dusting of snow, but it is insufficient for skiing.
- The skiing complex “Play” and in Slavske also have some patches of snow, but these small white spots are far from enough to open the trails.
- There is still no snow in Zakarpattia either, including at the high-altitude Dragobrat, which used to be one of the first to open its trails.

No resort knows when the ski season will start. They don't even try to predict approximate opening dates for the slopes — it all depends on the weather.
Instead of skiing and other winter activities, Ukrainian resorts offer alternatives, shifting the focus to spa vacations, gastronomic tourism, or walks and excursions.
EcoPolitic previously reported that 2025 could be one of the three warmest years in recorded history.
