The European Union calls such actions by the White House a "turning point."

European Commissioner for Climate Action Wopke Hoekstra considers the US decision not to send high-level officials to the world's main environmental event to be harmful.

According to Bloomberg, he cites the undermining of global influence and the deterioration of the overall mood at COP30 among the consequences.

A turning point for environmental unity

The US is the most important geopolitical player on the planet. Therefore, according to Hoekstra, the country's decision to distance itself from joint environmental efforts will cause obvious damage.

However, the European Commissioner for the Environment is still trying to remain positive in his assessment of the upcoming summit, especially in terms of forming new partnerships and the growing role of other countries. In addition, despite the administration's disregard for climate issues, regional authorities and businesses in the US remain interested in environmental issues, particularly in the field of renewable energy.

“If there is a business case for continuing to work with solar energy, batteries, or wind, then what are businesspeople doing? They are trying to profit, and that's right,” says Hoekstra.

EcoPolitic reported on the White House's decision not to send its top officials to COP30 and the Trump administration's consistent policy of moving away from environmental values.

The EU also expressed dissatisfaction with China's position, namely the insufficient size of the PRC's contributions to global environmental projects.
