Eighteen new projects have been launched as part of the EU Climate Change Adaptation Mission. Turning innovations into practical tools, combining management efforts, and researching local potential are all aimed at strengthening the climate resilience of regions and communities in 28 countries.
According to the Mission's statement, the European Commission funds the projects. Investments will amount to €115 million.
Practical tools for communities and regions
One of the flagship projects, REGILIENCE+, will transform innovations into specific mechanisms adapted to the local context. The project will identify 150 of the most effective solutions for adapting to climate change and transform them into user-friendly tools.
Training and practical materials will make knowledge about environmental innovations more accessible, enabling state bodies and local authorities to implement proven adaptive models based on them.
Multi-level governance for the implementation of eco-solutions
The project to create Adaptation Centers will form unique working groups in EU countries to coordinate efforts to combat climate risks. By combining the efforts of authorities, experts, and communities, these Centers will become an ecosystem for scaling and implementing the Climate Mission's solutions.
The Centers should ensure the effective management of environmental solutions and their implementation in real projects at the level of individual EU countries and their regions.
From scientific conclusions to concrete actions
Within the framework of the program, 16 more Horizon Europe projects will be launched to develop tools for monitoring, data management, and increasing the resilience of ecosystems and communities to the effects of climate change.
The projects will focus on finding ways to adapt solutions for small communities, taking into account the needs of socially vulnerable groups, and working on the economic attractiveness of eco-projects.
