The State Environmental Inspectorate has received modern mobile eco-laboratories from the United Nations Development Program. Equipped with everything necessary, the specialized vehicles will allow environmental inspectors of Ukraine to work in the fields in accordance with international standards.
This was reported by the Ministry of Economy, Environment and Agriculture. The special vehicles were purchased with the support of Sweden as part of an environmental damage assessment project.
Currently, an experiment is underway in a number of regions of Ukraine to prevent environmental crimes and record the damage to the environment caused by Russian aggression. Mobile laboratories will allow environmental inspectors to quickly collect and analyze "evidence."
How are the SEI mobile laboratories equipped?
- Quadcopters to help survey areas from a safe distance;
- Equipment for sampling water and soil;
- Portable refrigeration equipment for sample storage;
- Devices for connecting to a satellite communication system.
“The provided mobile laboratories will become part of the infrastructure for new environmental control points – an innovative model we are already testing in six regions of the country. This is a practical step towards ensuring that environmental control in Ukraine meets EU standards.” stated Deputy Minister of Economy, Environment, and Agriculture of Ukraine Ihor Zubovych.
EcoPolitic reported that the first Environmental Control Point (ECP) has recently been launched in Zhytomyr region. According to the Ministry, similar experimental stations have started working around the clock to record environmental violations in Odesa, Mykolaiv, Poltava, Rivne, and Cherkasy regions.
