The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has approved a new government action program and eight priorities for the Ministry of Economy. In particular, point 4 concerns environmental protection and the goals for its implementation.

EcoPolitics reviewed the government's new environmental protection goals and whether they will be effective.

Point 4 reads as follows: “Effective and economical use of resources (land, subsoil, forests, water). Care for the environment.”

As stated, the Ukrainian government is forming a policy of economical and efficient use of natural resources (land, subsoil, forests, and water) for further stable economic growth and ensuring food security for citizens.

The goal is to combine the development of modern agricultural production and transparent management of state property with care for the environment and the efficient use of Ukraine's natural resources.

Steps to achieve the goals:

  • Creation of mechanisms for financing the development of land reclamation systems.
  • Acceleration of land demining, launch of an agency.
  • Liberalization of land relations.
  • Launching the formation of CRM clusters, launching the URP.
  • Approval of lists of critical and strategic minerals and deposits.
  • New legislation on the timber market and corporatization of “Forests of Ukraine.”
  • Reform of environmental control (preventive control).
  • Adoption of legislation on emissions trading.
  • Development of the nature reserve fund.
  • Launch of the waste recycling market.

EcoPolitiс previously reported that on August 18, Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko presented a draft government action program. It contains proposals on key policy areas of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.

The EcoPolitic team noted that the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved the Government's Priority Action Plan for 2025, which contains, in particular, tasks and measures to achieve sustainable development goals and implement the provisions of the Ukraine Facility Plan.
