The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has approved a new government action program and eight priorities for the Ministry of Economy. In particular, point 4 concerns environmental protection and the goals for its implementation.

EcoPolitics reviewed the government's new environmental protection goals and whether they will be effective.

Point 4 reads as follows: “Effective and economical use of resources (land, subsoil, forests, water). Care for the environment.”

As stated, the Ukrainian government is forming a policy of economical and efficient use of natural resources (land, subsoil, forests, and water) for further stable economic growth and ensuring food security for citizens.

Steps to achieve the goals:

  • Creation of mechanisms for financing the development of land reclamation systems.
  • Acceleration of land demining, launch of an agency.
  • Liberalization of land relations.
  • Launching the formation of CRM clusters, launching the URP.
  • Approval of lists of critical and strategic minerals and deposits.
