In total, there are 529 solar power plants in Kyiv

Solar energy is becoming increasingly popular in Kyiv, as 120 new solar power plants have been connected to the city's grid since the beginning of 2025. And the trend continues to gain momentum.

This was reported by the press service of DTEK Kyiv Electric Grids.

Although Kyiv has extremely limited potential for installing solar power plants due to the dense urban development, the demand for solar power plants is growing. Currently, 110 new power plants belong to private individuals and 10 to legal entities.

There are now more than 500 solar power plants operating in Kyiv, installed by both individuals and businesses. Investors use the solar energy produced for domestic and commercial needs.

“The emergence of new solar power plants and their connection to the general grid is an important contribution by Kyiv to the development of distributed generation, which is more resistant to the challenges of wartime,” said Denis Bondar, CEO of DTEK Kyiv Power Grids.

Their owners are not only able to provide themselves with electricity, but also sell surplus energy to the general grid. DTEK experts said that this is an important step for the city, as it allows for more stable and sustainable energy generation during wartime.

As EcoPolitics wrote earlier, OKKO continues to transition to solar energy. In the first half of this year, the OKKO group of companies commissioned rooftop solar power plants (SPPs) at 40 more of its own gas stations, as well as on the building of its motor transport enterprise.
