A solar power plant (SPP) has been installed on the roof of the Kolomyia Central District Hospital in Ivano-Frankivsk region.

This was reported by the NGO Ecoclub.

The capacity of the solar panels of the SPP is 127.35 kW. It was equipped with inverters with a total capacity of 110 kW. The total cost of installing the solar power plant amounted to UAH 3,564,978.

In the event of an emergency power outage, this solar power plant will be able to ensure the uninterrupted operation of the surgical and intensive care unit, operating room and trauma center. Therefore, doctors will continue to provide medical services even in case of emergencies.

“The solar power plant will primarily enable the institution to become more energy independent, especially given the situation in the country and possible power outages. It will also significantly reduce energy costs and direct the saved funds to the development of the hospital,” says Ihor Koba, medical director of Kolomyia Central District Hospital.

Funding for the project came from three sources:

  • from the Czech organization NESEHNUTÍ, which provided solar panels worth UAH 1,625,440;
  • UAH 406,470 was allocated from the local budget of the Kolomyia community;
  • from the German foundation wirWerk, which provided €30,000 (approximately UAH 1,353,067), secured by a donation from philanthropist Andreas Rick.

As EcoPolitic has already reported, in April, a solar power plant built with funds from Spain was launched in Chornobyl.
