At the country's largest landfill in Pidhirtsi near Kyiv, eyewitnesses recorded whole mountains of discarded bread.

Photos from the landfill were published by the Telegram channel Kyiv INFO.

The author of the photos said that they were taken at the solid waste landfill No. 5 in the village of Pidhirtsi, Obukhiv district. He expressed complete incomprehension as to how this could be done.

Social media users were also outraged by what they saw and expressed the opinion that there were several tons of discarded bread. Because of the bright orange packaging, they assumed that it could be Kyivkhlib products.

The decision to close the landfill and the corresponding action plan was made by the Kyiv City Council back in 2018. They promised to stop accepting garbage at this landfill by the end of 2021.

As EcoPolitic reported in September 2023, reclamation work continued at the landfill No. 5 in Pidhirtsi. It was supposed to be the first landfill in Ukraine to be closed according to modern technological standards. At the time, officials noted that reconstruction and reclamation would continue for many years.
