A working group under the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine has finalized a European reference document translated into Ukrainian on the best available technologies and management practices (BAT) for surface treatment with organic solvents, including chemical protection of wood and wood products.
The agency informed about this on Telegram.
In the process, the specialists, in particular, harmonized the national technical terminology with the terminology of the European Union.
The ministry said that this is the sixth European BAT reference document finalized in Ukraine. They will all be implemented as part of the reform of industrial pollution reduction and control. The BAT documents will be used by Ukrainian industrialists, authorities and other stakeholders in the process of implementing the industrial pollution reform.
The document provides real-world experience of European industrialists in implementing BAT to prevent and control pollution.
The officials said that the next stage of BAT implementation is the approval of BAT conclusions at the national level.
"This will become possible after the government approves the relevant Procedure, which has already been developed by the Ministry of Environment to fulfill the requirements of the Law "On Integrated Prevention and Control of Industrial Pollution," the ministry said.
As EcoPolitics previously reported, in December 2022, the relevant ministry published the first reference documents on Best Available Techniques and Management Practices/BREFs for the production of iron and steel, cement, lime and magnesium oxide, as well as energy efficiency. In March 2023, the Ministry of Environment published updated BATs for ferrous and non-ferrous metallurgy. In May of the same year, the Ministry published new translated reference documents on best available techniques and management practices for glass and ceramics production. And in July 2023, the ministry called on the public to read the published BATs on air emissions, surface treatment with organic solvents, forging and foundry industries, and to join the discussion. On November 1 , the Ministry of Ecology published new BATs for ferrous metallurgy enterprises.
Later, on November 14, the ministry published the Concept of Support for Enterprises Implementing BAT.
