The Lithuanian government has allocated €5 million for the installation of solar power plants in Ukraine.

This is reported by the Latvian edition of LRT.

However, there is a condition: the equipment for SPPs must be reliable and protected from cyberattacks, and therefore, manufactured in Europe. This was stated by Head of the Development Cooperation Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Rasa Kairienė. She emphasized that when choosing solar power plants, the reliability of the installed equipment and cybersecurity aspects should be ensured so as not to create additional dependencies for our country.

“Thus, during the procurement process, we will try to include this requirement, according to which the equipment must come from the EU or the European economy,” she said.

According to the ministry, since the beginning of Russia's large-scale invasion in February 2022, Ukraine's energy capacity has more than halved.

The Foreign Ministry also reported that Lithuania's total support for Ukraine will reach €1.45 billion by the end of this year.

In 2023, Ukraine and Lithuania signed an agreement on energy efficiency and decarbonization. The cooperation was supposed to extend to the development of alternative fuels and high-efficiency cogeneration.

Later, EcoPolitic reported that Ukraine had signed a Memorandum with the Lithuanian Energy Agency, under which the partners will develop proposals for medium- and long-term plans to restore the national energy system.
