Work on the invention lasted for 15 years

Spanish scientists from the Complutense University of Madrid have completed work on an innovative solar cell that is potentially capable of achieving a record solar energy conversion efficiency of up to 60%.

This is reported by the BuildingTECH publication.

This is the world's first solar cell with an intermediate band. It is made of gallium phosphide and titanium.

Most of the modern solar panels work on the basis of silicon cells. But the problem is that they have limited effectiveness. Its maximum theoretical value is 33.7%. This means that even under ideal conditions, more than two-thirds of the sunlight's energy remains unused.

The researchers plan to develop a prototype solar panel and confirm theoretical predictions in practice. In addition, the team will focus on further improving the design of the elements and optimizing their performance, exploring different approaches to solving the remaining technical problems.

Thus, the work of Spanish scientists opens new horizons in the field of solar energy and brings humanity closer to more efficient and sustainable sources of energy.

At the end of September, EcoPolitic told that scientists came up with , how to charge your phone with solar energy without a charger.
