A poacher who caught fish worth more than UAH 3 million will stand trial in Poltava region darg.gov.ua

The perpetrator can receive a fine of up to UAH 51,000 or imprisonment

Poltava police, together with the Kremenchuk District Prosecutor's Office, completed a pre-trial investigation and sent an indictment to court against the offender who caught almost 300 kg of fish in the Kamianske Reservoir on March 31. According to experts, the amount of damage caused to the state is over UAH 3 million.

This was reported by the Main Directorate of the National Police in Poltava Oblast.

The perpetrator was caught in the spring during a raid by operatives of the State Fisheries Agency together with employees of the Poltava Fish Protection Patrol. The fish marauder, using a boat and 7 nets, caught 294 kg of fish – almost 2,000 fish in total, including young carp and carp, which were used to stock the reservoir a few days before.

By his actions, he caused losses to the state in the amount of more than UAH 3.1 million. Fish guards seized prohibited fishing gear, a boat and illegally harvested aquatic biological resources.

If the court finds the violator guilty, he faces a fine from 17,000 to 51,000 hryvnias or probation supervision for up to 3 years, or restriction of freedom for the same period.
