Currently, SPPs in Ukraine produce about 75% of "green" energy

The construction of solar power plants (SPPs) in those regions of the country that were previously considered promising for this type of industrial facility has been suspended due to the war. The most attractive regions over the past two years have been Ivano-Frankivsk, Kirovograd, Lviv, and Kyiv.

This was reported by Ukrainian Energy.

According to the NEURC register, as of April 24, 2024, there were 1369 solar power plants in Ukraine. They are the most popular type of generation compared to wind, hydro, and bioelectric power plants. 75% of all RES facilities are solar power plants.

2019 was the peak year for the development of SES in Ukraine. In the following years, the number of issued licenses gradually decreased.

About half of all Ukrainian solar power plants are now located in 6 regions:

  • Ivano-Frankivsk (142);
  • Dnipropetrovsk (134);
  • Vinnytsia (122);
  • Khmelnytskyi and Kyivskaya (107 stations each);
  • Mykolaivska (92).

The fewest SPPs are in Luhansk and Donetsk (2 stations each), Sumy (5) and Poltava (7) regions.

Since the beginning of the full-scale war, not a single license has been issued in the territories of 6 front-line regions: Kherson, Zaporizhzhya, Mykolaiv, Kharkiv, Donetsk and Luhansk. This is understandable: investors see risks that have increased many times.

"During the war, the most attractive regions for the construction of SPPs are Ivano-Frankivsk, Kirovohrad, Lviv, and Kyiv oblasts. Currently, about 60% of all licenses for the production of electricity at SPPs were obtained for facilities built on the territory of these regions," Oksana Zuyeva notes. , database specialist of the Dixi Group analytical center.

In April 2024, 3 new solar power plants were added in the Kirovohrad, Odesa, and Cherkasy regions.

Currently, about 5,900 MW of industrial SPPs and over 1,200 MW of domestic small SPPs are located in the unoccupied territory of Ukraine, but they too continue to be destroyed by Russian attacks.

"Starting from February 24, 2022, Ukrainian energy facilities are under constant missile and drone attacks and have withstood hundreds of Russian strikes. At least 13% of industrial solar power plants have been destroyed or damaged," said Vladyslav Sokolovskyi, chairman of the board of the Association of Solar Energy of Ukraine (ASEU). .

After the start of the full-scale invasion, some solar power plants ended up in the temporarily occupied territories (TOT) of the Kherson, Zaporizhzhya, Donetsk, and Luhansk regions. Currently, they do not work as part of the energy system of Ukraine.

According to ASEU's calculations, there are currently 62 industrial SPPs with a total installed capacity of more than 950 MW at TOT. And this is without taking into account a significant number of small domestic HPPs with a capacity of up to 30 kW.

Earlier, EcoPolitic reported that in the European Union solar power increased to 263 GWt.
