The director of a utility company of the Romny City Council was served a notice of suspicion of illegal felling of trees.

According to the investigation, the suspect, abusing his official position, intentionally damaged the territory of the nature reserve fund (Part 2 of Article 364 and Part 1 of Article 252 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine), the press service of the Sumy Regional Prosecutor's Office reports on Facebook.

In October 2023, the director of the Romensky Park, a monument of landscape art, violated the current ban on unauthorized felling of trees and bushes by organizing the felling of trees to transfer the wood to another person for free. This was done under the guise of cleaning up fallen trees during a storm, but without the appropriate permits.

According to the conclusions of the examination, the illegal felling of maple, ash, birch and acacia trees caused damage in the amount of UAH 1.58.

The pre-trial investigation is being conducted by police investigators of the Romny district of Sumy region under the supervision of the Prosecutor's Office.

As Ecopolitic previously reported, in the Kyiv region, criminals organized the illegal felling of 100-year-old oaks on the territory of the Chornobyl Radiation and Ecological Biosphere Reserve worth more than UAH 59 million.
