Damages amount to almost UAH 2 million

In Sumy region, the chief engineer and foreman of the logging operations of the subsidiary Okhtyrka Forestry Enterprise were served with a notice of suspicion of organizing illegal deforestation.

This was reported by the press service of the Sumy Regional Prosecutor's Office.

According to the investigation, the suspects, without the necessary permits, ordered their subordinates to cut down trees in a forest belt outside the village of Yamne, Okhtyrka district, Sumy region, within a month. As a result of this illegal order, 117 oak and ash trees were cut down.

The expert examination revealed that the amount of damage to the natural environment amounted to UAH 1.971 million (Part 2 of Article 28, Part 2 of Article 364 and Part 4 of Article 246 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

A pre-trial investigation is currently underway with the participation of investigators from the Okhtyrka District Police Department of the Sumy Oblast National Police.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, in Volyn, the director of the Kivertsi National Nature Park "Tsumanska Pushcha" was served with a notice of suspicion of illegal felling of trees worth more than UAH 16.5 million.
