Exceeding the radiation background was not recorded in the city

In Zaporizhzhia, an object labeled "Radiation" was found in the industrial zone on Dokivska Street, with radiation background levels 3.8 times higher than the norm.

The area next to the dangerous find has been fenced off and is under law enforcement control, the State Environmental Inspectorate of the Southern District reports on Facebook.

It is noted that a chemical laboratory of a special purpose rescue squad was sent to the scene.

The press service said that experts found the following indicators of radiation background:

  • at a distance of 0.3 m – 0.15 μSv/h, with a norm of 0.3 μSv/h;
  • at a distance of 0.1 m – 0.21 μSv/h;
  • in the zone of the radiation source – 1.15 μSv/h.

"The issue of the further transfer of the discovered object to the Radon Association" is being resolved, the message said.

Eco-inspectors said that the radioactive metal object has an oval shape and measures 20x30 cm.

"In the city, the radiation background has not been exceeded," the press service emphasized. "The situation is under control."

As EcoPolitic previously reported, in the Voznesenivskyi district of Zaporizhzhia, environmental inspectors together with prosecutors found hazardous waste of various types dumped in the open air in an unauthorized place.
