Integrating the principles of an eco-industrial park into the reconstruction process can be an important step toward sustainable and environmentally conscious recovery, according to the Center for Economic Recovery.

In the context of a full-scale war, the destruction of infrastructure, massive population displacement, and economic downturns pose serious challenges for Ukraine.

"An eco-industrial park is a special industrial zone that promotes sustainable development by ensuring social, economic and environmental parameters in the selection of location, planning, management and daily operation," said Volodymyr Buzhan.

The participants of the event also discussed the development and transformation of eco-industrial parks, their role in the recovery process, and further steps in development in Ukraine, taking into account the country's green recovery.
"The tool of eco-industrial parks is used by most countries in the world. 80 out of 110 countries surveyed by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development claim that such parks have given a powerful impetus to foreign direct investment. As of April 2023, 65 industrial parks were registered in Ukraine. However, they require financial, technical, fiscal, and ecosystem incentives. This is how they will be transformed into eco-industrial parks that are attractive for investment," Buzhan said.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, on March 21, the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine presented the draft National Energy and Climate Plan (NECP) to the European Commission during the event "Energy and Climate Management in Ukraine – Towards Green Recovery".
