827 firs, firs and beeches were cut down in the "Zubrovitsa" nature reserve

In Chernivtsi region, Putyla Forestry has reimbursed UAH 3.3 million in damages for illegal logging on the territory of the Zubrovytsia local zoological reserve.

The violation was discovered by environmental inspectors during a routine inspection of the forestry in 2021, the State Environmental Inspectorate of the Carpathian District reports on Facebook.

It is noted that the relevant decision was made by the Western Economic Court of Appeal.

The press service said that the felling of 827 trees, namely spruce, fir, and beech, was detected in 2021 during a routine inspection. The environmental inspectors calculated UAH 3,270,002 in damages from such felling.

The reserve protects the population of bison, as well as other wild animals, including spotted salamander, Carpathian and mountain newts, common copperhead, black stork, lesser spotted eagle, pygmy eagle, golden eagle, grouse, woodpecker, owl, hairy owl, sparrow owl, long-tailed owl, wolf, badger, forest cat, walnut wolf, brown bear, lynx.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that in February 2021, environmental inspectors found that the state-owned enterprise Berehomet Forestry and Hunting Range in Bukovyna illegally cut down 365 trees worth UAH 3.6 million.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, in Bukovyna, an official from the forestry enterprise was notified of suspicion of abuse of power, which led to the illegal fellingof trees worth 900 thousand hryvnias. He illegally issued logging tickets for felling in the forestry of Chernivtsi district.
